As part of the Applause for the Cause program, the New York State School Boards Association (NYSSBA) recognized Malone Middle School's Team Innovate for their "Going Green" initiative. NYSSBA is dedicated to recognizing and promoting the positive work taking place in schools across the state. Team Innovate, represented by educators Robert Carr and Patty Croteau, received a certificate plaque at the September Board Meeting. "Going Green" is an interdisciplinary project, in partnership with The Heart Network’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC) program, that helps students learn about environmental sustainability and food production. Students receive hands-on experiences with hydroponics, aeroponics, traditional raised-bed gardening, and a greenhouse to grow food and plants, collect data, solve problems, and explore careers.
