Over the Christmas Break, power outages at Franklin Academy led to a frozen pipe bursting and sending more than a hundred gallons of water into the main office and guidance areas. The damage was significant and required the removal of flooring and part of the walls.
While the damage is covered under the district's insurance, initial estimates were that the office and guidance staff would need to displaced until sometime in March, due mainly to scheduling of contractors. That's when the FEH BOCES Building Trades program came in clutch.
This week, students from Malone and other area districts have been learning about building codes involving water damage with real world experience, working on removing and replacing sheetrock. We are impressed by their professionalism, which is a testament to the quality of the BOCES programs and their instructors. We are very grateful for their help in getting operations back to normal as quickly as possible at FA!
