Seventh-grade students recently participated in a hands-on, project-based learning experience that combined family and consumer science, math, English language arts, and science. With support from Ms. Guerrette in the library, students worked in small groups to develop their own food truck businesses.

Throughout the project, students applied real-world skills to create comprehensive business plans. Each group researched and selected a food theme, developed a unique menu, designed a logo, and created marketing materials. To secure a loan from the bank, students also completed the Venture: Entrepreneurial Expedition financial literacy course from EVERFI.

The project emphasized essential life and career skills such as budgeting, teamwork, time management, and creative problem-solving. As a final step, students built physical models of their food trucks to showcase their designs and branding.

The project culminated with a visit from Jason Poirier, owner of the Adirondack BBQ food truck, who spoke to students about the challenges and rewards of running a food truck business. Mr. Poirier also treated each student to a free slushy.
