The Positivity Project

This week's P2 trait is Bravery. We hope you'll take a few minutes sometime this week and use the links at the bottom of this message to talk to your child about this character trait.

What it is.
Bravery refers to taking voluntary action despite circumstances that make us afraid or that might be dangerous in some way. In other words, bravery is acting with mental, moral, or physical strength even when you know things are difficult or scary. Bravery can take many forms. Physical bravery involves overcoming fear of injury. Moral bravery occurs when an individual does what he/she believes is right in the face of social and/or financial consequences. Mental bravery happens when people overcome their everyday fears and anxieties.

Why it matters.
On an individual level, bravery is important for growth, as it allows a person to do more and become more. A person can be brave every single day.

In a group setting, bravery is inspiring and contagious. Witnessing an individual's act of bravery, such as standing up for a bullied student, is a form of leadership and often encourages others to take action and to be brave too.
