Malone families,
This week's P2 trait is Other People Mindset: Knowing That My Words and Actions Affect Others. We hope you'll take a few minutes sometime this week and use the links at the bottom of this message to talk to your child about how the things they do and say affect other people.
What it is.
Everything we do, say, text, snap, or post can positively or negatively affect other people. According to research, the average American hears or reads more than 100,000 words a day. It is important to be mindful of our words and the the things we do that other people are taking in around us every day.
Why it matters.
On an individual level, it is important to remember that a string of words that don't mean much to us at the time might stick with someone else for a lifetime. Our words have the power to lift other people up or tear them down. If I am consistently speaking and acting with an entitled, arrogant or mean attitude toward others, it becomes harder and harder to tap into the character traits of gratitude, humility, and kindness.
In a group setting, if we all are more thoughtful with our words and actions, and we show respect and consideration for the people around us, we are likely to have a happier and healthier culture.
Practice at home.
To practice this character trait at home, please visit P2 for Families, where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote a three questions. Click the link below appropriate for your child's grade level.
