Malone families,
This week's P2 trait is creativity. We hope you'll take a few minutes sometime this week and use the links at the bottom of this message to talk to your child about integrity.
What it is.
Creative people are able to look at the world in original ways. Creativity helps us be open to new experiences, and to have an imaginative and independent thought process. It enables us to generate new ideas and pursue them with energy and enthusiasm. Being creative requires courage because any time we put our original ideas out into the world we risk being criticized.
Why it matters.
Creativity is often associated with intrinsic motivation, that is being motivated to do something for our own, internal sense of satisfaction or accomplishment. Creativity is also often connected with self-actualization. People with the strength of creativity have the urge to create something new and original, and that action of creation makes them happy.
In societies, creativity is essential. It helps us solve seemingly impossible problems, and encourages us to seek out answers to problems we might not even have known existed individually. Creative solutions can help resolve conflicts and find compromises that satisfy everyone involved, strengthening relationships. It helps us solve tough problems, create new things, and see the world in fresh ways. Examples include treatments for deadly illnesses, such as cancer, the invention of the cell phone, and the development of solar panels. Imagine life without Impressionist paintings or the creation of airplanes and rocket ships.
Practice at home.
To practice the character trait of integrity at home, please visit P2 for Families, where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote a three questions. Click the link below appropriate for your child's grade level.
