Sweethearts and Heroes

This week, we were very excited to welcome Tom Murphy and Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Rick Yarosh from Sweethearts & Heroes, an organization that has been working with our students for several years now. On Monday and Tuesday, they spent time in our elementary buildings and Middle School. They put on several assemblies, and had a chance to talk with some smaller groups.

The mission of Sweethearts & Heroes is to deliver the message of H.O.P.E. (Hold On, Possibilities Exist) and empower students’ growth while working to build a positive school culture. In their words, they seek to infect all people with purpose, compassion, and empathy. We are grateful for their time with us, and look forward to continuing this important work.

Some of our Middle School students had the following to say about their experiences this week.

"I realized after seeing this presentation that people struggle with their own problems, but you will find your own H.O.P.E. that can bring you up again. Keep going and focus on you, not what everyone else thinks. Hold On, Possibilities Exist!" - A.J.

"This presentation showed the actual impact of bullying and the tragedies it causes. And it showed that even if you feel doomed, just one person helping can give you hope and help you get through." - A.A.

"Never make someone feel worthless." - T.S.

"You never know what someone is going through. If you see someone being bullied, always get them out of there within 10 seconds!" - E.P.
