Two seniors from Franklin Academy have earned spots at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Los Angeles.

From May 12 to May 18, Cora Benardot and Ellie LeRoy have been proudly representing Franklin Academy at the ISEF Regeneron Science event, showcasing their exceptional scientific talents on a global platform. Their journey to this prestigious competition began with their outstanding performance at the Terra Northeast science fair, where their project stood out among peers and earned them the honor of advancing to the ISEF fair.

Cora and Ellie's project investigated the impact of Franklin Academy's cell phone ban on various aspects of student life, with a focus on discipline data and perceptions of cyberbullying. Their research yielded insightful findings, revealing that a significant number of respondents felt "less safe" in school due to the absence of their phones.

Through their study, Cora and Ellie advocate for a shift towards a "play-based childhood" over a "screen-based childhood," emphasizing the importance of reducing screen time and promoting active, imaginative play among young learners.

Their participation in the ISEF not only showcases their academic excellence but also exemplifies Franklin Academy's commitment to nurturing innovative thinking and scientific inquiry among its students. Franklin Academy extends its sincere congratulations to Cora Benardot and Ellie LeRoy and wishes them continued success as they proudly represent our community at the International Science Fair.
