GoGuardian

GoGuardian is the service which filters student internet activity and allows teachers to monitor students during their class time.

We have a legal requirement and a responsibility to filter student accounts to try to make sure students are accessing websites and services that are school appropriate. Even when they're not at school, their Chromebooks and school Google accounts are still filtered by GoGuardian and our Google settings.

The vast majority of filtering is automated; there isn't someone sitting there in real-time deciding what you get to open and what you don't. Most of the time, the filters are pretty smart in what they're blocking, but sometimes, sites that are perfectly fine, even ones assigned by our teachers, might get caught up in the filter. Sometimes, sites that should be blocked make it through. If this happens and you would like to ask that a site be unblocked or blocked, please use the Filter Requests form below.

GoGuardian Parent

GoGuardian is the service which filters student internet activity and allows teachers to monitor students during their class time.

GoGuardian Parent is now available for use by all parents and legal guardians in the district. GoGuardian Parent is accessed via an app, which is available for free for both Android and iOS devices. This app will allow you to:

  • See the top 5 sites for your child. These are the 5 sites he/she has spent the most time on in the past month.

  • See the number of times a teacher has used an intervention with your child. Interventions include closing tabs on their Chromebook as well as locking their screen.

  • See all of your child's internet browsing activity for the past 30 days.

  • Apply additional filters to your child's Chromebook outside of school hours. If there are particular websites you do not want him/her going to, then you can block those sites. Please note, this feature is only available outside of normal school hours, which are Monday-Friday, 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

  • Pause your child's internet access outside of normal school hours, which is to say you can turn off their internet access.

In order to get access to GoGuardian Parent, please fill out the form below.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I was looking at my child's internet activity and there is a site that is definitely not appropriate. If GoGuardian is a filter, how is that possible?

A: While we may all wish this weren't the case, there is no such thing as a filter that is 100% effective. Unfortunately, there are people whose jobs revolve around finding way for the websites they work for to bypass filter settings. GoGuardian its self updates its filter settings everyday in an attempt to be as effective as possible. In addition, we also have the ability to manually add sites to the filter to be blocked. So please use the filter form below to tell us about a site that should be blocked, and we will take care of it ASAP.

Q: What are extensions, and what are the Chromium extensions that show up in the list of top 5 extensions for my child?

A: Extensions are like mini programs that can be added to Chrome that adds functions and allows students to do certain things with their Chromebooks. While using their school Chromebooks, students are only allowed to add pre-approved extensions. Also, there are some extensions that are installed on student accounts by us remotely, and students cannot uninstall them. These are referred to as force installed extensions. Two of those are the Chromium extensions. These are the programs that allow GoGuardian to filter and monitor our students' activity. They are in the top five because they are force installed extensions, so they are always running, every time your child is using his/her account.

Q: When looking at my child's internet activity, I see a page with the address blocked.com-default.ws. What is that?

A: This is the address that shows up when a student has tried to open a page that was blocked by the GoGuardian filter.

Q: I would like to make sure my child does not go to certain sites that GoGuardian is currently not blocking. How do I do that?

A: First of all, be sure you understand that you can do this, but only outside normal school hours. During school hours, the filters we have put in place are the ones that will affect your child, not any additional filters you add. Normal school hours are defined in GoGuardian as 6:30 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Outside of those times, however, you can put additional restrictions in place. Please refer to section 6 on this page to find out how to do this.

Q: Is there anything I should be aware of before I block my child from additional sites outside of school hours?

A: Probably the most common site parents talk to us about in terms of wanting to restrict their child's access is YouTube. We totally understand this, and support your right to put these sorts of restrictions in place. We would just point out, though, that many teachers are using YouTube to host videos they are using for instruction and assignments. So simply blocking it altogether for the whole period of non-school hours may be detrimental to your child's ability to do their work. One possible solution would be to talk to your child and set up a designated period of time they should use to get their work done, and then put your filtering restrictions in place after that time.
